I was blessed Monday night with a shine on the definition of Source from Sensei. In many studies with Sensei he says that everyone has a piece of the Source in them - that is what animates us. Conventional religion also says this (at least the denomination I grew up in) - God is in everything. Intellectually, this concept is easy to accept. It is easy to see that when the Source leaves us, our bodies die and start decaying right away - returning to their source - the Earth.
Over at http://eternalawareness.wordpress.com/ there has been several great lessons on The Art of Giving. The principles of giving - Respect, Appreciation, Gratitude and Value - include returning part of the appreciated value to the source. (see this post for more information on the Art of Giving http://eternalawareness.wordpress.com/2006/10/25/giving-back-to-the-source/)
The light bulb that went off for me is finally realizing (vs intellectualizing) that when Sensei says return a portion to the Source, he is talking about returning it to the spark within whoever you are engaged with - not necessarily returning it upstream. That is where I was falling down with it. I thought it had to go upstream and kept trying to return the value to my teacher…because he is the source of my learning.
Hopefully here is an example. Lets make it adversarial because it is easier to make the point. You are engaged in a conversation about work and you and the person you are talking with have very different opinions. The conversation is starting to get a little heated. It is at the point of really escalating. The challenge is to find the value in the other person, some value. Recognize it and acknowledge it (respect), appreciate it by adding value. Well, how do you do that? Take their idea and expound on it - open it up so that value can be added, maybe by someone else. But you opening it up is adding value. Showing gratitude is returning it to the Source. What Source? The Source within that person you were just arguing with. They had a nugget of good value in the argument that you saw, you seized upon it and made it more valuable. Now you make sure that person knows that it was their idea that started it. It isn’t stroking ego, it is returning value to the Source.

I get oodles of spam everyday. My email is setup so I can see part of the email without opening it. I just received one whose first line said:
In business theres no word more powerful than the word. And what is the word? P-R-O-F-I-T!!!
It just struck me as sickening. I immediately thought of verse 1 of John: “In the beginning was the Word, and Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Maybe they didn’t mean to play off this, but that is what it brought to my mind and I’m not even religious (I had to look up “Word” in my Bible’s concordance to find the reference). And it isn’t as if I am against making a profit, certainly not.
Maybe it is just the whole spam thing - inundation, and it is all crap that is focused on low value stuff. Viagra; don’t miss this or that investment deal; satisfy her/him for hours (does anyone outside the porn industry really WANT to do it for hours?) - it is all a load of crap. Yes, I know, just delete it, but there is so much of it, even deleting it takes several minutes by the time you at least scan to see if anything is legit.
I’m definitely flushing this one!

I so admire you all who blog everyday. I find it hard to do - I let everything else take precedent. Occasionally my friend Mark at http://eternalawareness.wordpress.com/ will ping me to either blog or visit his blog. Today was one such day because he posted on a comment I made and then showed a link over here. He admonished me to get a post up as people may click over. So, as I wait for my conference call leader to call in thought I would at least start.
There is a lot of conversation going on about putting a higher value on things that are eternal and I realized that blogging in this group is doing just that. I have been putting my highest value on things of such little eternal value. Am I going to take that afghan with me when I go? Will that TV show be of any value whatsoever in a few years? But this is what I spend my time on.
Do you spend your spare time on things of eternal value?

Miss Jen Coleman is getting married! She picked 7/7/07 as the big day. It is supposed to be a spiritual day and the biggest wedding date in history.
Why is 7/7/07 a spiritual day? I trolled the internet and didn’t find a single definitive thing about that date or the meaning. If anyone knows, I’d be interested.

At least for the moment. Of course, Mark is behind this, but it felt like it was time.
My other blog is still up for the time being. If you happen on this you can go to http://gribobber.blogspot.com/ and see what I used to have to say. It may all end up in a big flush in the near future so now is your opportunity.
I’m still learning WordPress, but it does seem to be more powerful than Blogspot, thus the new blog.
So, why am I back? There is an exciting project on the docket, at which I am not at liberty to discuss at the moment, but I need to get my blogging chops back in preparation.
Where did the picture and name of my blog come from? The name was a misspelling that seemed appropriate. Then, I was browsing my pictures when I came upon a bunch that were just numbered so I clicked on one to see what it was and there you have it. Seemed to go with the theme (it is my sister’s bathroom).
Hopefully, those who find themselves here won’t actually think everything should be flushed. I’m hoping it will be more the type that will inspire you to flush away anger, hate, doubt, greed, you know, all those negative things that keep us from evolving.
More later!
